On Thursday, September 28, 2017, the 2017 Salute Her: Beauty of Diversity honored trailblazers: Sade Baderinwa, WABC-TV Channel 7 Anchor & Founder of “Get Reel” With Your Dreams: The Inside Track, Champion for Children Award Yvonna Kopacz Wright, actress & Owner of Lomar Farms, Toyota Green Initiative Award Shaila Scott, broadcast maven, Broadcast Innovator Award Audrey Smaltz, fashion icon, Woman of Style Award Cynthia Horner, hip-hop media mogul, Media Legend Award Tara Simone Woodley, renowned Harlem entrepreneur, Legacy Business Award Karen Taylor-Bass , contemporary millennial change agent, Mocha Maven Award. The awards show was host by Comedian & Talk Show Host Loni Love, Rapper and Radio Host, Yo-Yo and Radio Host Angelique Perrin. The entertainment for the evening consisted of a performance by R&B singer Kenny Latimore.
The event was held at Mist Harlem at 46 W 116th St, New York, NY 10026. The mission of the Salute Her Awards is to highlight a variety of talented and accomplished women who are succeeding in their fields while making significant contributions to their communities. This year’s theme, Redefining What Perseverance Looks Like from the Inside Out, speaks to the importance of women maintaining their inner spirit to find strength to be the best they can be. Toyota, committed to green living and bettering the environment, will once again present the Salute Her: Toyota Green Initiative Award to an outstanding female student in the STEM field who exemplifies the goal of the company’s sustainability campaign. The initiative promotes sustainability awareness and education in African-American communities across the country.
Also, there was a VIP pre-reception featuring female-owned small businesses, a special musical tribute to honorees by Grammy Award-nominated balladeer Kenny Lattimore. Community Service Award is given to deserving women chosen from nominations submitted by listeners at the SaluteHer website.
The Salute Her: Beauty of Diversity Awards supports the Mocha Cares Foundation, which provides services to combat homelessness, domestic violence, and foster care through mentorship programs.
