Four-time Tony Award-winning producer and actor Ron Simons, who will soon be seen in Marvel’s star-studded, highly anticipated Netflix original limited series “Defenders,” being released Friday, August 18, 2017.
Set a few months after the events of the second season of Daredevil, and a month after the events of the first season of Iron Fist, the vigilantes Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Colleen Wing), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) team up in New York City to fight a common enemy: The Hand.
Recently winning his 4th Tony Award for the August Wilson hit Broadway show Jitney, under the category “Best Revival of a Play,” Ron is now the highest African-American Tony Award winning producer of all time. Ron Simons is a highly influential Broadway producer who with a long list of credits that including the Tony-award winning revival of Porgy and Bess, the all-black Broadway production of A Street Car Named Desire starring Blair Underwood, and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, which won the Tony award for “Best New Play.” He also brought to life Broadway’s Hughie starring Forest Whitaker and The Gin Game starring James Earl Jones.
In addition to being one of Broadway’s top ‘go-to’ producers, Ron is a thriving actor who recently appeared in and executive produced KING COBRA starring James Franco, and ORDINARY WORLD staring opposite Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and Selma Blaire. Simons also serves as executive producer in Annette Bening & Elisabeth Moss’ upcoming drama SEAGULL.
This multi-talented creative and businessman began his career as a software engineer at Hewlett-Packard, IBM, and Microsoft, and holds an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School and an M.F.A. in acting from the University of Washington. Combining his entertainment experience with an extensive business background, Simons has become a highly sought-after actor, filmmaker, producer and a leading pillar of his community. Ron Simons is a recipient of the Heritage Award from Columbia College’s Black Alumni Council, 150 Distinguished Alumni Award from University of Washington, and is a Johnson & Johnson Leadership Award Fellow.
