Under Armour came in as the 528th largest public company in the U.S., up 69 spots from No. 597 last year. The sportswear maker revenue posted 2016 revenue of $4.8 billion. For context, the No. 500 company on this year’s list, ABM Industries, has revenue of $5.1 billion.
Sparks spice giant McCormick & Co Inc. climbed 14 spots to No. 553 on this year’s list after posting revenue of $4.4 billion last year. Baltimore-based Laureate Education, which went public in February, debuted at No. 571 with 2016 revenue of $4.2 billion. T. Rowe Price Group Inc. ranked just behind it at No. 573.
Across the state, Lockheed Martin continued to lead the way, pulling in $50.7 billion in revenue last year. Marriott International Inc. climbed 32 to spots to No. 163 with revenue of $17.1 billion. The hotel giant closed its $13 billion acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts in September.
This year’s Fortune 500 companies represent two-thirds of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product with $12 trillion in revenues, $890 billion in profits and $19 trillion in market value. The companies employ 28.2 million people worldwide.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) again tops this year’s list, with revenue of $485.9 billion in 2016. Warren Buffett‘s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE: BRK.A) is No. 2 with revenue of $223.6 billion.
